SCGH Adult Mental Health Unit

PROJECT

Construction of the 30 bed Mental Health Unit (MHU) commenced in 2013. Located on the western end of the QEII Medical Centre campus, the Unit will bring a greater range of treatment options available for adult mental health patients needing acute care when it opens in 2015.

The Unit will be a secure mental health facility providing assessment and treatment for those people who usually reside within the community but at the time of admission require acute mental health care.  The Unit will cater for patients who present to the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Emergency Department and Community Mental Health Services. It will enable tertiary level mental health services to be available for the WA public as part of a system of mental health care across the state, and is part of the overall plan to reconfigure mental health services across the North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS).

The modern design of the building is considerate of the needs of families and friends who visit and are involved in the care of their loved ones. It will be an Authorised facility under the Mental Health Act.

Wilcox & Co have undertaken the Hydraulic, Wet fire & civil drainage services to this development.
